From Waste to Efficiency: Resolute Precision Manufacturing Cuts Coolant Use by 65% with TRIM® OV2200
Resolute Precision Manufacturing® specializes in Swiss turning operations using a variety of materials including 6061 Aluminum, 303 Stainless Steel, and Nitronic 60. The company operates six Swiss-type lathes, including Citizen L32, Citizen A20, and Tsugami B0386-III machines and has partnered with Master Fluid Solutions® to address excessive coolant consumption and maintenance challenges.
THE CHALLENGE
Prior to the trial, Resolute Precision Manufacturing relied on Hangsterfer's Hard Cut NG® as their coolant. While the product performed adequately, the company faced significant challenges with coolant consumption and maintenance:
  • Oil usage: 110 gallons per week for just four machines
  • Excessive consumption and waste
  • Limited oil life, increasing maintenance frequency and cost
THE SOLUTION
To address the high oil consumption and limited fluid longevity, Master Fluid Solutions recommended a switch to TRIM® OV2200, a high-performance, vegetable-based oil specifically formulated for Swiss-style machining. The product was introduced through a controlled two-month trial across multiple machines. TRIM OV2200 offered superior lubricity, thermal stability, and cleaner performance compared to the previous oil. Its advanced formulation helped reduce fluid waste, extend oil life, and improve overall machine efficiency—delivering measurable operational and cost-saving benefits for Resolute Precision Manufacturing.
THE RESULTS
The results of the trial were both immediate and impactful. Resolute Precision Manufacturing experienced a 65% reduction in oil usage, significantly lowering fluid consumption and associated costs. In addition to the cost savings, the company reported improved oil longevity, leading to fewer fluid changes and less downtime. Operators also noted cleaner machines and improved machining performance, particularly in demanding Swiss turning operations. These results validated TRIM OV2200 as a more efficient and reliable solution, prompting the company to convert all Swiss lathes to the new fluid and adopt Master Fluid Solutions’ preventive maintenance program for sustained performance.

“Our PM schedule or repairs were a lot higher with that other cutting oil. It would leave a sticky coating on everything that would cause the covers on the machines to bind up, often leaving the rails exposed to chips. Sub collets had to be cleaned a lot more often too. I couldn’t be happier with the OV22001!” said Brad Werblo, Manufacturing Engineer at Resolute Precision Manufacturing.
THE NUMBERS
  • Oil usage reduced by 65%
  • Improved oil life, leading to fewer changes and better machine uptime
  • Enhanced overall performance, meeting the operational demands of Swiss turning
