Job Shop Enhances Manufacturing Efficiency with TRIM® MicroSol® 685XT
Our customer, a prominent manufacturing company, who produces a wide range of multi-metal components was founded in 1997 by veterans in the machining industry with over 80 years of combined experience. Specializing in the production of diverse parts and components, they manufacture aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel. They cater to both short and long production runs, job shop, and prototyping needs, ensuring flexibility and precision throughout their manufacturing processes.
THE CHALLENGE
The company faced several issues with their existing metalworking fluids. A competitor’s product used in the mills caused heavy residues, unpleasant odors, poor sump life, and excessive foam. Another competitive product used in the lathes suffered from sourcing difficulties and a lack of reliable support from distributors and suppliers. The customer felt underserved and frustrated with their existing coolant providers, which impeded their operational efficiency. Running two different coolants throughout the facility added complexity and fluid management challenges.
THE SOLUTION
An expert from Master Fluid Solutions® audited their manufacturing facility and recommended a trial of TRIM® MicroSol® 685XT, a high-lubricity, low-foaming, extended sump life, semisynthetic, microemulsion coolant. This formula offers superior cooling and mechanical lubricity, along with the machine-friendly characteristics expected from a premium TRIM coolant.

To ensure a smooth transition, Master Fluid Solutions provided comprehensive labor and equipment services for the initial cleanout and conversion. This included onsite support during the changeover process, training for the company’s staff on the new coolant’s optimal use, and ongoing technical support to address any issues promptly. The integration process was meticulously planned and executed to minimize downtime and disruptions to the manufacturing workflow.
THE RESULTS
The implementation of MicroSol 685XT led to significant improvements. There was an immediate enhancement in overall cleanliness in both the mills and lathes. The elimination of foam in the mills was particularly notable, and the extended sump life in the machines was a huge improvement. Additionally, the customer was able to consolidate their coolant spend with Fastenal, reducing lead times and logistics costs. The partnership with Fastenal, which had local inventory available just 15 minutes from the facility, provided the customer with better support and satisfaction. The customer expressed high satisfaction with the improved performance and support they received with the Fastenal and Master Fluid Solutions partnership. The superior performance of MicroSol 685XT had a positive impact on their operations, enhancing their overall production experience. The company is considering further collaboration with Master Fluid Solutions to explore opportunities for using straight-cutting oils, cleaners, and rust preventatives.
THE NUMBERS
  • Reduced foam and residues
  • Extended sump life
  • Consolidation of two cutting fluids to MicroSol 685XT
  • Improved support from Fastenal and Master Fluid Solutions
